Willard Miller

A teenager who fatally beat a teacher with a baseball bat in the state of Iowa, United States, has been sentenced to life imprisonment without parole for 6 days.

According to the New York Post, the incident occurred in Fairfield, a town with a population of 10,000, in November 2021. Willard Miller, a 17-year-old, committed this act in response to his dissatisfaction with the grade given by his Spanish female teacher, Noema Graver. Graver, who was of Mexican descent, was 66 years old at the time of the fatal attack.

Miller, who was charged with first-degree murder, pleaded guilty in April of this year.

Jeremy Goodale (18), who was involved in the crime, was also found to have participated in the attack on the teacher.

The local judge ruled, "You have extinguished a precious life, bringing devastation to the family and the community. Despite your young age, a substantial sentence is appropriate." Miller will be eligible for parole after 35 years. He was also ordered to pay a minimum of $150,000 (approximately 19.6 million Korean won) in restitution to the victim's family.

According to investigators, Miller engaged in a dispute with Graver over receiving a low score during their meeting on the day of the murder. According to Goodale, Miller's accomplice, they had been planning the murder using a baseball bat for about two weeks.

Graver's body, with head trauma, was discovered by the police the day after the murder. The body was wrapped in a tarp and hidden in the park where Graver used to frequently take walks. Miller admitted that the murder took place in that park.

The two accomplices are shifting blame onto each other. Goodale testified that Miller was the one who planned the murder and provided the baseball bat. On the other hand, Miller admits to assisting in the execution of the plan but denies striking Graver.

According to investigators, the two boys even boasted about committing the murder on social media.

Goodale's sentencing is scheduled for next month. Prosecutors are seeking to induce Goodale's confession with the condition of serving a minimum of 25 years in prison.
