'Game of Thrones' and 'EastEnders' Actor Darren Kent Dies at 36

Actor Darren Kent, known for his roles in "Game of Thrones" and "EastEnders," has passed away at the age of 36.

Kent, a versatile talent with credits as an actor, writer, and director, graced the screens of BBC's iconic soap "EastEnders" and the recent ITV drama series "Malpractice." His appearance in HBO's fantasy phenomenon "Game of Thrones" as the character Goatherd, a grieving father featured in the fourth season's episode titled "The Children," left an indelible mark on fans.

In addition to his television work, Kent made a brief appearance in the cinema release "Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves," earlier this year.

The exact cause of his untimely passing remains undisclosed. His talent agency, Carey Dodd Associates, shared the somber news on Facebook: “It is with deep sadness we have to tell you that our dear friend and client Darren Kent passed away peacefully on Friday. His parents and best friend by his side. Our thoughts and love are with his family in this difficult time. Darren was not only a talented actor, director and writer, he was truly one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. It has been a privilege and pleasure to have been a part of his journey. RIP my friend.”

Kent, a native of Essex, kick-started his acting career after graduating from Italia Conti in 2007. He made his debut in the 2008 horror film "Mirrors," sharing the screen with Kiefer Sutherland. In 2018, he starred in the gothic chiller "The Little Stranger," directed by Lenny Abrahamson and featuring Domhnall Gleeson and Ruth Wilson.

In 2022, Kent made appearances in two episodes of the acclaimed series "EastEnders." His recent involvement in Jane Gull's "Love Without Walls" drew a heartfelt tribute from the writer-director on Twitter: “What a privilege it was to be your friend and to work together on so many projects over the years. Life won’t be the same without you. I will miss you so much. RIP darling Darren Kent xxxx.”

Kent's directorial portfolio encompassed an episode of the BBC series "The Break" and the short film "You Know Me," both released in 2021. The writer of "You Know Me," Ben Trebilcook, expressed condolences: “Love and thoughts to the friends and family of our talented, caring soul of a friend, Darren Kent, who sadly passed away on Friday.” Trebilcook fondly remembered Kent as “a true character who was always creating and forever upbeat and encouraging.”
