Anton Gerashchenko, Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs, shared the photo on Twitter on the 12th of July, along with the caption "Instead of a thousand words." The photo depicted a man lying in a hospital bed, both arms amputated and bandaged, while a woman closed her eyes and tightly embraced him, wrapping her arms around his waist.
Minister Gerashchenko explained that the man in the photo, Andrii, a reconnaissance officer in the Ukrainian Defense Forces, suffered severe injuries on the front lines, losing both arms, both eyes, and part of his hearing. He further stated that Andrii's wife, Alina, is currently staying at the hospital to take care of him. The photo was taken on the 10th of July at a hospital in Kyiv, Ukraine. Andriy, who is undergoing treatment in the hospital, was critically wounded while fighting against Russian forces in the southern Donetsk region.
The photo shared by Minister Gerashchenko garnered over one million views and was retweeted more than 4,700 times within just one day. People expressed their reactions to the photo, with comments such as "Wishing Andrii a swift recovery with the love of his wife. Love conquers all" and "So many sacrifices are being made by the young due to the war."
