Winter Springs Police Department apprehends receptionist involved in credit card fraud scheme

Winter Springs, FL - In a shocking revelation, a receptionist at MacDonald Family EyeCare in Winter Springs, Florida, has been arrested for allegedly embezzling over $44,000 from numerous unsuspecting patients, according to Winter Springs Police Department officials.

The investigation into Angelina Mena's activities commenced on March 11, 2022, when the optometrist's office reported a possible case of fraud to local authorities. It was suspected that Mena, who worked as a receptionist at the eye care center, was illicitly using patients' credit card information to perpetrate credit card fraud.

Following a meticulous month-long investigation, Winter Springs police discovered that Mena had executed her fraudulent activities using her own square account. She reportedly targeted 76 patients who regularly visited the family practice, exploiting their credit card information to amass a staggering sum of money.

After 16 months of relentless investigative work, law enforcement authorities gathered sufficient evidence to present their case to the State Attorney's Office. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued for Mena. Last Friday, on July 21, police took her into custody on several charges related to the credit card fraud scheme.

Following her arrest, Mena was booked into the Orange County Jail, where she awaits further legal proceedings. The Winter Springs Police Department has stated that their investigation into the matter is still ongoing, and no additional details will be disclosed at this time.

This disturbing incident has left the community shocked and concerned about their financial security when dealing with medical service providers. Authorities urge patients who visited MacDonald Family EyeCare during the past year to monitor their financial accounts and report any suspicious activity immediately.

As the case unfolds, the Winter Springs Police Department is working diligently to ensure justice is served and reassure the public that such fraudulent activities will not be tolerated within their community.
