Elon Musk launches 'xAI', new AI firm.

xAI Launches: Musk's Vision for Understanding the Universe

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has officially launched an artificial intelligence (AI) company called xAI.

On the 12th of July, xAI announced through its official website that it had been launched. They stated that their goal is to understand the true nature of the universe and added that they will share more information through a live chat on Twitter scheduled for the 14th. The team at xAI consists of individuals with backgrounds from DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, and former employees of Tesla. This includes participants from DeepMind's AlphaCode project and contributors to OpenAI's GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 projects.

Financial Times first reported Musk's new project in April, stating that he had secured thousands of GPU processors from NVIDIA to power potential large-scale language models. Around the same time, Musk shared detailed plans for a new AI tool called "TruthGPT" during an interview with Fox News channel.

In 2015, Musk co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman and others, but in 2018, he divested his stake in OpenAI and stepped down from the board due to concerns about potential conflicts of interest between Tesla's AI research and OpenAI. With the establishment of xAI, Musk is now leading six companies, including Tesla, SpaceX, Twitter, Neuralink, and The Boring Company.
